The body of an abused six-year-old boy was found under the hallway of his mother’s home in Arkansas, and the mother and her boyfriend were arrested.
Lee County deputies called special agents Friday night to a home in Moreau, about 75 miles east of Little Rock, where the boy’s body was found under the floor, state police said.
Police said the child may have been dead for up to three months.
“Based on preliminary findings, it is believed that the child died of injuries sustained at home, possibly three months ago,” the Arkansas Department of Public Safety said in a statement. “The state medical examination will determine the way and cause of death,” he said.

A six-year-old girl was also found in the home, police said, with what they believed to be burns to her scalp. He was taken to a Memphis hospital in stable condition.
The children’s mother, Ashley Roland, 28, and Nathan Bridges, 33, were arrested by state police. Both are charged with murder, abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence and endangering the health of a minor.
Bridges is believed to be Roland’s boyfriend. It is not known what caused the discovery.

The children’s grandmother has been trying to get custody for more than a year, according to a GoFundMe page posted by a friend. After working through the proper channels and paying a “ridiculous amount of money,” the grandmother obtained a court order last week allowing her to see her children over the weekend, Anita Whidbey wrote about the fundraiser.
When she came home to pick up her grandchildren on Friday, she was told the boy was at a friend’s house and the girl was unable to walk.

After that, the grandmother saw the condition of the girl and took her to the hospital. The boy’s hair was shaved, he was malnourished, he had cracked ribs and multiple burns on his body in various stages of healing.
“These injuries are believed to have been caused by her mother and her mother’s boyfriend,” Whidbey wrote.
On the same day, the grandmother was informed by the police that her grandson’s body had been found.
