Houston, Texas, November 14, 2022 – Today, Crown Castle Inc. (NYSE: CCI), the nation’s provider of shared communications infrastructure, announced a national partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America as part of its Connected by Good initiative. “Crown Castle Connects Youth to STEM Program.” It aims to inspire the next generation of youth to envision a future in the STEM fields and support the shared needs of more than 50 Boys & Girls Clubs in communities across the country.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, STEM jobs are expected to grow by 8% by 2029 – more than double the expected growth for all occupations in the US1 However, diversity in STEM fields is not keeping pace with this growth. Today, very few elementary, middle, and high school students are interested in or adequately prepared for STEM subjects.2 This is especially true for young men and women of color who are underserved in the STEM workplace. Boys & Girls Club members, on average, show more interest in STEM careers than their peers nationally, with 52% of members showing interest, compared to the national average of 27%.

“Early exposure to STEM is a powerful way to inspire young people to learn and explore new ways of thinking. With the incredible reach and impact of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, we are able to impact and ultimately empower the youth in our communities,” said Jay Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Crown Castle. “At Crown Castle, we know that building a team of people from different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives is key to our innovation and success.”

Over the next two years, Crown Castle will invest about $2 million in the partnership. Crown Castle connects youth to STEM programs:

  • Crown Castle Clean Up Days will give staff from across the country the opportunity to volunteer to clean and restore local clubs from 14-18 November 2022.
  • Crown Castle holiday program for December 2022.
  • Crown Castle STEM Inspiration Days are planned for the summer of 2023, where volunteers will lead the Club’s youth through fundamental and engaging STEM activities at partner clubs.

“We are honored to have the support of Crown Castle as we continue to improve STEM resources for all youth at clubs across the country,” said Jim Clark, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “As our world becomes increasingly STEM-focused, partnerships like this are critical to encouraging the next generation to develop the critical skills they need to succeed beyond high school and into the workforce.”
