Northern District of New York | Syracuse Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Drug Trafficking and Firearm Offenses

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Yoan Rodriguez, 24, of Syracuse, was sentenced today to a total of 120 months in prison after pleading guilty to drug trafficking and firearms charges, U.S. Attorney Carla B. Friedman, US special agent. Frank A. Tarentino, III, US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), New York Division, Special Agent in Charge Jane DiGuiseppi, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Albany Field Office, and Police Chief Joseph Cecil, Syracuse Police Department. Rodriguez was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release after his release from prison and to forfeit to the United States $35,000.00 representing the value of the handgun and unreturned drug proceeds.

Rodriguez was one of 14 defendants charged and convicted in the case. During the investigation, it became known that the members of the conspiracy brought kilos of heroin and fentanyl from Pennsylvania to Syracuse, where they packaged and distributed the drugs for several months in 2020. During the investigation, law enforcement authorities seized several kilograms of heroin and fentanyl, as well as several firearms. , several vehicles and a large amount of US currency. The case was investigated by the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Syracuse Police Department-Gang Violent Task Force and Special Investigations. Division (GVTF and SID), New York State Police, US Department of Homeland Security-Immigration and Customs Enforcement/Enforcement Removal Operations (ICE-ERO), Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, Auburn Police Department and Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office and Assistant US Attorney Judged by Nicholas Commander.
