One of the Best Budget Gaming TVs for PS5 or Xbox Series X Is On Sale for Black Friday

If you’re in the market for a great, future-proof gaming TV, but want to keep your budget under $1k, then take a look at the TCL 6 Series TV. It’s got all the tech you’d want in a gaming TV current generation to match your PS5 or Xbox Series X console, and works great as an HDR TV too. Best Buy has the 65″ model for $599.99 (normally $1,000), which is the lowest price we’ve seen. That’s $200 cheaper than what we saw during Amazon’s early Black Friday sale in October.

The reason the TCL R646 is significantly cheaper compared to other similarly specified TVs is that this is a 2021 model. There is a 2022 variant (R655) but it’s very hard to find found and much more expensive. The TCL R646 boasts a Mini-LED panel with quantum dots (QLED). with full LED lighting and 240-zone local dimming, as well as a wide color gamut. This makes it a great HDR TV, especially since it supports Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG.

What’s good about Mini LED, QLED and Local Dimming?

The QLED panel enables this TV to maintain strong color accuracy and good dynamic range even at maximum brightness levels. The local dimming feature allows different areas to dim or brighten independently of each other, allowing the TV to deftly handle scenes where brighter whites and darker blacks occur simultaneously. Mini LED panels enable even more precise local dimming because the controller areas are smaller and more numerous. While a normal LCD TV with local dimming can have up to 100 dimming zones, the TCL R66 boasts a whopping 240 zones.

Why is this a good TV for gaming?

The TCL R646 has gamers covered. It has a native 120 Hz panel and two HDMI 2.1 inputs. This means it can pass true 4K @ 120Hz on PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles and gaming PCs equipped with the RTX 30 series. The TCL R646 also supports variable refresh rate (VRR), which is this TV’s version of adaptive sync technology, as well as Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), where the TV automatically switches to a lower delay when it detects the game.

What smart interface does it use?

The TCL 6 Series 2021 is also new enough to adopt Google TV for its smart TV experience. Google TV is a definite improvement over the old Android TV interface and works just as well as Fire TV or Apple TV, even more so if you’re using an Android phone or tablet.
