Several Monterey County school districts have announced the cancellation of all classes and extracurricular activities on Thursday, January 12. The following school districts have announced closures as of 11:00 p.m. Wednesday:Salinas Union High School DistrictSanta Rita Union School DistrictWashington Union School DistrictSoledad Unified School DistrictGonzalez Unified School DistrictSpreckels Union School DistrictThese announcements are made by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office to prevent flooding along the Salinas River. came after another evacuation order was issued. Possible flooding could cut roads connecting Salinas and the Monterey Peninsula. Officials said the river could flood Interstate 68 near River Road, Blanco Road at the river crossing and Interstate 1 near the Marina where it empties into the ocean.
